These courses are ideal for participants who wish to build their linguistic skills while learning about specific subject areas. The courses are combined with Italian Language studies and held in the afternoons. Participants must have at least an Intermediate level (level 4) in Italian as the classes are held in Italian. Each optional course is 2 weeks or 4 weeks long. Courses offered depend on program intake.
- Italian Literature
There are two different courses that alternate each month. One is a general course, which covers Italian literature from its origins to the present day. The other course is more specific, dealing with particular authors or periods.
- Art History
This course presents an overview of art history, highlighting the most important periods such as the Renaissance, and significant artists including Giotto, Michelangelo, and Leonardo Da Vinci. The course is complemented by slides and field trips
- Contemporary Italian History
This course deals with the most significant periods of modern Italian history. A range of study materials such as historical documents, articles, audio-visual aids are used.
- The History of Italian Cinema
This course analyses "classic" and cotemporary directors such as De Sica, Fellini, Tornatore and Salvatores to give a complete and fascinating overview of Italian cinema.
- Regions of Italy
Discover the various regions of Italy from the Alps to Sicily, uncovering the wide range of history, tradition and customs of Italy.
- Italian Wines
This is a theoretical-practical course explaining the characteristics of famous Italian wines, including tasting sessions. The course is complemented by a visit to a vineyard in the Chianti country.
- Italian Cuisine
Learn some of the secrets of Italian cuisine! Each lesson includes the preparation and execution of a complete meal: from antipasto and main courses to dessert.
- The Language of Tourism
Ideal for students interested or working in the hospitality industry, this course teaches specific terminology necessary for all kinds of language situations at the written and oral level.
- The Language of Fashion
This course teaches terminology commonly used in the world of fashion. Students also visit important clothing manufacturers to enable introduce them to Florentine fashions.
- The Language of Business and Trade
This course provides a general overview of the business world in the Italian system, as well as enables students to master oral and written business language skills.
